In the event of a tie, for example you both draw a 6 you then get asked whether you want to surrender (Lose half of your bet) or go to war. When you go to war you place another bet the size of your first bet and you draw a card again. The person with the highest card wins the hand. If you tie the first draw and win the second draw you get your original bet back and you win the second bet. So for example, when you go to war and win you get $30 assuming your first wager was $10. If you go to war and lose you lose your $20. In the event of a second tie, you win.
This is where the house edge comes in, in the event that you go to war you either win 1 unit or you lose 2 units. Assuming that you do not surrender the house edge is approximately 3% and varies based on the number of decks in play.
